Hello

I am addressing the comment that my Wikipedia user name (Xaphoon) may violate wikipedia guidelines regarding use of trade names as usernames. As noted below, the term Xaphoon is a registered trade name for the manufacture of woodwind musical instruments. However, as a linguistic sound, and a choice of spelling, its use for other purposes is not automatically restricted. New words in the language are occasionally incorporated into common speech in spite of their legal status as trade name. For example, one commonly hears the word "xerox" as a verb meaning to duplicate a paper in a copy machine, or as a noun denoting such a copy, even though Xerox stands as a registered trade name.

Even though I did coin the term "Xaphoon" in the 70's as a trade name for my instruments, other uses have developed since then. There is a popular remix artist who goes by the name "Xaphoon Jones." According to an interview at...

http://www.bluesandsoul.com/feature/507/chiddy_bang_on_your_marks_get_set/

...Noah Jones began using the name "Xaphoon" after he heard an awful sounding synth preset he found on the "Reason" program he uses to make his beats. Of course, I have no objection to Mr. Jones' use of the term as a personal moniker. He likes the sound, and it serves him well to distinguish him from other rappers.

However, some unauthorized instrument manufacturers in Asia have recently tried to market copies of my design using my registered trade name, which is illegal and unethical. I did not make the original wikipedia page on "Xaphoon," but my updating of it was to include the origin of the name and its status as a registered trade name for the use of a woodwind musical instrument of my patented design.

My use of xaphoon as a wikipedia username does not particularly reflect my association with the instrument: in this case it is merely a nickname that I happen to like the sound of... just like Xaphoon Jones. No one else was using "Xaphoon" as a wikipedia username, so I chose it simply because it was available and I am not likely to forget it.

Thanks,

Hello

Note. I have added Trademark/Tradename file numbers and the US Patent number for the Xaphoon to support my edits, and to verify that the word "Xaphoon" is in fact a trade name, and not a generic term.

Thanks
